Dia de los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, the best known of all Mexican celebrations is a time of remembrance when families in villages throughout the country go to the cemetary to be with their loved ones, cleaning the gravesites, preparing altars and food. The graves are decorated with marigolds, cockscombs, candles and papel picado (cut paper panels).

At the same time, Mexicans celebrate death, la Muerte, with humorous figures of calacas (skeleton figures) as personages and characters from everyday life. These pieces can be made in almost any material, the most traditional being paper maché and ceramic.

Polanco has a wide variety of fine quality and unique items for Dia de los Muertos. We have recently returned from Mexico with new works by Leonardo Linares and many others.
